Blueprint Adopts Megaways System – BTG’s Evolution of Video Slots
Blueprint has just recently released Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways slot.
If the name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve already played it before. No, it hasn’t leaked to casinos prior its official launch date. The game has actually been updated into a second edition.
How does it differ from the original game?
The first Fishin’ Frenzy didn’t have the Megaways system. However, with the new in-game mechanism, the same game looks much more attractive.
Here’s how it’s like now:
Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways Slot
Those of you familiar with the classic version of this slot will find it very similar. The same symbols, music and bonuses are present in the Megaways version.
The symbols include fishes, a seagull and various fishing tools, as well as symbols derived from playing cards. It’s a simple game as it only has one feature, which you can trigger by collecting at least three scatters.
This will give from 10 to 50 free spins where the fisherman wild shows up. When it does, it will catch all the fish symbols present on the reels. Each fish has a monetary value attached to it, and the player will immediately win the attached amount.
Fishin’ Frenzy Classic VS Megaways
The gameplay we described so far was the same on the classic version. The only difference (but a big one) is the Megaways mechanism. Because of it, the game now has:
- 6 instead of 5 reels
- Up to 5 lines on each reel (instead of fixed 3 lines)
- Up to 15,625 ways to win instead of 10 fixed paylines
- Up to 50 instead of 20 free spins per bonus
- Fishes worth up to 100x instead of 10x during the bonus
Here are two screenshots of the gameplay of both games for your comparison:
On top of the changes mentioned above, some symbol values have been slightly reduced. However, this is understandable considering the number of win lines. In fact, we expected a much more drastic devaluation.
On the other hand, some other sneaky methods to reduce the RTP are used. For example, the fisherman wild now appears less often than before.
Despite all that, however, the Megaways version remains more lucrative and certainly more exciting.
Megaways by Big Time Gaming
Megaways gameplay system is actually the creation of a game studio called Big Time Gaming (aka BTG).
One of its aspects is that it doesn’t have a fixed number of lines on each reel. There is a fixed maximum, but the exact number of lines is random. On each spin, it may vary from two to seven (or, in the case of Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways slot, to five)
Not only that, the number of lines on each reel is determined separately. Thus, it’s usual to see reels that have a different number of symbols on each reel on Megaways slots.
“But if there’s a different number of symbols every time, how do the paylines work?”
A good question, this one. The answer is simple – there are no paylines. The games use ‘all ways win’ mechanism, which is why Megaways slots have up to 117,649 possible ways to win.
It’s because there are always six reels and each one may have up to seven symbols.
In reality, however, you’ll usually get between 1,000 and 20,000 paylines due to the randomization of symbols per reel. In the case of Fishin’ Frenzy, the maximum is 15,625. It has a maximum of five symbols per reel instead of seven.
What’s Great About It?
Here’s why many slot fans and online gamblers love this innovation from Big Time Gaming:
- IT HAS 117,649 PAYLINES!!!
- A proper combo may result in mind-blowing winnings
- The unpredictable reels add an extra element of risk
- The grid looks more dynamic and lively compared to classic slots
- Usually, Megaways also act as cascading reels, resulting in unlimited max wins per spin
- Did we mention that there are at least 100x more paylines than in most other slots?
In short, BTG came up with a brilliant feature that is simple yet game-changing (pun intended). So, if you haven’t played any Megaways slot yet, you’ve been missing out.
BTG’s Evolution of Video Slots
As you might have noticed, we just presented a Fishin’ Frenzy slot with this new feature. A Blueprint game with a gameplay mechanism from BTG.
In other words, everyone loves this feature so much that even other companies have started using it. Big Time Gaming has issued licences to use their most celebrated slot feature to a number of developers. This includes studios such as:
- Blueprint Gaming
- Red Tiger
- Relax Gaming
- Storm Gaming Technology
We have no doubt that this list will keep growing with time. Blueprint, in fact, has already launched at least five games of theirs a second time (since their 2018 deal). All of them now boast at least 15,000+ win lines, all thanks to BTG.
As the company itself states on their website:
“Megaways™ is the true evolution of slot machines.”
Call it whatever you want, but it’s a fact that this new feature is revolutionary. Even the industry’s biggest innovators NetEnt are, no doubt, envious of their competitor’s solution.
Here’s the majority of UK slots using this mechanism today:
Undoubtedly, the list will keep growing, so check these games out and you’ll immediately see why we’re so excited.
TL;DR – Big Time Gaming is taking over the online gambling industry with its awesome Megaways slot mechanism. It’s innovative, exciting and lucrative all at the same time.
